Who created this nonsense?

Emilie Leclerc and Joey Lespérance have many things in common.  Their meeting was inevitable.  They are both French-speaking artists living in Vancouver, sharing a passion for physical theatre, Power Corporation Prize recipients, and clowns lovers.  In April 2011, Emilie and Joey shared the stage in Théâtre La Seizième’s production of L’Enfant-Problème, for which they both received a Jessie Award nomination.  In the midst of discussions backstage, Joey and Emilie realized that they both shared the desire to create a physical theatre piece together, and the need dig into a subject they felt strongly about: body image.

We needed a strong outside eye who not only fully understood the clown world, but could also guide us through our adventure of creating new edgy work.  Alison Kelly quickly came to mind for her love of laughter, her experience in clowning, and her years of experience creating new comedy with the famous Vancouver-born Mom’s the Word series.  Although Joey, Emilie and Alison have known each other for a few years, Cucci & Cabana marks the first time they’re creating a show together.

Last July, the creative team completed the first development phase of Cucci & Cabana.  On April 8th, rehearsals for the show start again and the outcome will be presented to Vancouver audiences.  Cucci & Cabana will be performed in French with English surtitles May 2-11 at Studio 16 in Vancouver.  Tickets on sale now at cuccicabana.bpt.me.

A show for adults of all ages!  Come laugh with us!!
